Culture Scape.\, this public art project\, commissioned by Mapletree and curated by NTU CCA Singapore comprises works by internationally renowned artists Dan Graham (United States)\, Zulkifle Mahmod (Singapore)\, Tomás Saraceno (Argentina/Germany)\, and Yinka Shonibare(Nigeria/United Kingdom). \nInspired by the idea of expanded sculptural environments\, the artworks explore the interplay between landscape\, architecture\, and the broader social and economic environments they are placed in. More than being monumental or site-specific\, each work alters or permeates its local context to invite visitors to a broader\, richer engagement. \n++ \nCulture City. Culture Scape. is part of the Mapletree-NTU CCA Singapore Public Art Education Programme\, which includes regular guided tours\, public events\, educational materials\, seminars\, and conferences.

SUMMARY:Preventive Publics: The Burning Car in Thomas Hirschhorn’s Installations
DESCRIPTION:Brianne Cohen is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado\, Boulder. Her research focuses on contemporary art in the public sphere\, and particularly\, art engaged with concerns of global migration\, postcolonial histories\, political violence\, and environmentalism. She is currently completing a book entitled “Preventive Publics: Contemporary Art and the Idea of Europe\,” which examines art practices that model and instantiate plural publics among masses of strangers in order to prevent sociopolitical violence in 21st-century Europe. She also recently co-edited an anthology\, The Photofilmic: Entangled Images in Contemporary Art and Visual Culture (Leuven University Press and Cornell University Press\, 2016).
